In March 2021, a volcano in Iceland erupted. The volcano had not erupted in more than 6,000 years! Thousands of people hiked to see it up close.
Luckily, the volcano was not dangerous. The hot, orange lava flowed in a clear path. People could see where it was going. They stayed out of its way.
The volcano didn’t just erupt once. It kept erupting for six months! Then it stopped. People thought it was done, at least for a while.
But then, about eight months later—surprise! It erupted again!
People were excited all over again. They flocked to visit the volcano. Would you want to get up close to all that lava? Or would you say “Volca-NO”?
